2024-12-03 Multilinear regression wind generation forecasts have been added to the website and SV API for: EIA NW and SW regions as well as international onshore/offshore generation.
2024-11-27 New 250 mb heights and vorticity model maps added. See example here.
2024-11-22 StormVista launched a new version of Google DeepMind's GraphCast today. This updated version has a deeper training set from NOAA using the GDAS information to get closer to more recent weather (up to part of 2022). Base GraphCast:  pre-trained on ERA5 data from 1979 to 2017 and fine-tuned on HRES data from 2016 to 2021. NCEP modifications:  fine-tuned with NCEP’s GDAS data as inputs and ECMWF ERA5 data as ground truth from 20210323 to 20220901. You can read a bit more about it here: https://registry.opendata.aws/noaa-nws-graphcastgfs-pds/ SV is running two cycles a day (0z, 12z), initialized with the European Ensemble starting point data. The model schedule for this new one has been added (GraphCast-GDAS-ECMWF-EPS): https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/api/model-times Testing has been occurring for the past few weeks, so we have verification data to track as well: 6-10 Day upper level height performance has been strong: https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/sv/model-verification/model-compare/hgt500/ac/na/all/6-10 6-10 Day 2-meter temperature performance has been competitive: https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/sv/model-verification/model-compare/tmp2m/ac/na/all/6-10 The 11-15 day performance is competitive for the upper levels, but not as much at 2-meters. One footnote: Delivery reliability may vary at times depending on GPU availability unfortunately (there is high demand for it during this A.I. boom).
2024-11-21 As noted on the front page of StormVista (article linked here), SV will introduce a new GraphCast tomorrow with a deeper NOAA training data set and initialized by the European ensemble. API extractions will be added as well. At the same time, SV is going to remove the operational runs of the FourCastNetV2 (American and European) from the maps and the API, as they have proven less skillful.
2024-10-31 New European weekly degree day change line charts are now available for 24, 48, 72, and 96-hour changes, with delineations for power and EIA weeks. See it here: https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/sv/weekly-dd-changes
2024-10-30 New user StormVista demo sessions now available on a regular schedule. Find the current schedule under the My Account menu in the upper right or by going here: https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/demos
2024-10-28 Starting Tuesday, November 5th, CWG will adjust its national wind generation values for the max capacity product and on both websites to reflect the addition of the Southwest and Northwest EIA regions. This should bring the CWG and SV actual national wind generation estimates closer to EIA estimates.
2024-10-28 New EIA Northwest and Southwest region wind forecasts have been added to the SV website and API products. See examples here: https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/sv/windgen/2024102812z/nw and https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/sv/windgen/2024102812z/sw
2024-10-25 NOAA NBM renewable forecasts added (wind/solar/combined) for North American regions for 0z, 6z, 12z, and 18z cycles. Available on the website pages and the SV API as of 0z 10/25.
2024-10-18 6z/18z AIFS max/min city forecasts added to SV. Find them on the API here: https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/api#/paths/model-data-model---date---cycle-z-city-extraction-corrected-max-min_-region-.csv/get
2024-10-17 France population-weighted WDDs are now available on SV products and API. See examples here: https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/sv/wdd/daily/intl-france-gw_hdd/2024101712z/grid
2024-10-09 Precipitation bias maps for the AIFS have been added under Model Metrics here: https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/sv/ai-precip-model-bias Additional 30-Day bias maps will fill in as they become available. In addition, AIFS maps have been added to the precipitation verification page here: https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/sv/model-verification/visual-compare
2024-10-02 StormVista is excited to present the Excarta AI Weather Model as a trial for the next three months. You will be able to view model output within the StormVista interface, any feedback on the model is appreciated at https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/contact-us or emailed to team@commoditywx.com
2024-10-02 You can now set overlays for each poly-panel panel when adding or editing a poly-panel.
2024-09-12 New bias, MAE, RMSE metrics added to skill die-off pages. See examples here: https://www.stormvistawxmodels.com/sv/model-verification/die-off/hgt500/rmse/nh/00z
